The longest nights of the year are nearing their end, and we welcome the return of the Sun. comes in with callings to slow down, reflect on our inner workings and ‘let go’ of things that no longer serve us.
Bear, bee, snake and skunk show us what it means to follow the natural rhythms of Mother Earth in our hemisphere by going into hibernation at this time. We can take a page of these teaching by our animal ancestors to slow down, and rest as much as possible. Which is clearly counter-intuitive to the natural rhythms of the holiday season, but if you find yourself feeling drained, or unfulfilled with the hustle and bustle that is the expectation of a spectacular holiday, take a look at this and feel into if you’re going against the current of the energy of life.
Ceremonially, I use this time to honour the ancestors, as it is said to be the time of year when the veil between our worlds is at its thinnest. Creating spaces of remembrance in our homes like an altar, setting extra plates at the table at meal time, and journal questions I seek wisdom to, are all ways which I call in the ancestral energies.
As the days get longer, and the nights shorter, it is a good time to germinate ideas and intentions going into spring and the New Year. Start looking at things that do not bring you joy, or no longer serve you and make you feel whole.
Even my husband who is not as woo-woo as me celebrates the returning of the sun by holding onto hope that although winter just started, the days getting longer will help off-set the winter of the little mountain town we live in.
My suggestion to you is to feel into what you ‘should’ be doing right now, which very well may be nothing, I personally have loved Ceremony since I was a little child, I remember being very young, and being obsessed with churches and bibles, I’d attend all the local churches in my neighborhood. As I reflected on this, it’s all about the ceremony, I love all things ceremony so that is where my heart leads me when it comes to solstice, the moon cycles, and more! I will try to integrate ceremony into my life at every opportunity. That is what my intuition calls to, what is your soul saying?
