Group Breathwork Session with Leilani

Leilani has provided information about her breathwork sessions here in the Spirit School Collective:

"I'm super excited to invite you to join our monthly breathwork sessions. I've been training to become a trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, and I'm really looking forward to sharing this space with you to explore and experience the benefits of this practice together.

Each session will run for about 90 minutes on Zoom, kicking off with a run-down of the breathing pattern we'll be doing together. And setting a group intention, but also please come with a personal intention for the session, something for you to focus on, whether that's finding calm, seeking clarity, or anything else that's meaningful to you.

We'll spend a good chunk of time actually doing the breathwork, paced anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. Please remember, this is a personal experience and it’s entirely up to you how far you take it. If at any point it feels like too much, it's totally okay to take a break. Afterward, we'll have time to chat and share any experiences or questions. I'll be playing music during the Breathwork practice.

Just a few things to keep in mind for a smooth experience:

  • Leave your cam on if you can, it helps with the group energy. If you’re not cool with that, no pressure, but just so you know, recordings will be available in case you miss out or want to revisit the session later. (It will be in speaker view for the replay.)

  • Make yourself comfortable and find a spot where you can sit or lay down comfortably, be it the couch, a yoga mat, a rug, or even your bed. You might want headphones and an eye mask to really zone in.

  • Have a journal or some paper handy, just in case you want to note down any thoughts or feelings that pop up during the session.

  • For your camera setup, try to show your full body as you lie down so I can give better guidance.

  • Lastly, ease up on the water & food at least an hour before we start, and wear something you can breathe easy in.

What is Breathwork?

Breathwork is a way to breathe continuously to help release stuck emotions in our bodies. This helps us reach our full potential and feel connected to ourselves in a deep way. With Breathwork, we learn to see things differently and feel more in tune with our body’s own wisdom. It's a method to heal ourselves and grow.

Why is Breathwork Important?

We all know life can be really busy and stressful. A lot of us feel disconnected from our bodies and overwhelmed by our emotions. We often feel stressed, anxious, and overloaded. Breathwork lets us pause and connect with ourselves by just focusing on our breathing. This helps us handle our emotions better. Breathing is something we've been able to do since birth, but many of us don't realize how powerful it can be.

  • Helps us understand and manage our emotions.

  • Makes our organs work better.

  • Helps us feel connected to a higher power.

  • Cleans out toxins.

  • Increases our energy and helps us think clearer.

  • Helps us feel closer and more aware of our bodies.

  • Lets go of old trauma.

  • Helps us tap into our intuition and spiritual self.

The Purpose of My Breathwork Sessions

Mission: I am dedicated to guiding the healing and transformative power of breathwork to help us all reach our highest potential.

Vision: I firmly believe that a life overwhelmed by constant stress and anxiety isn't something we should accept. Every one of us has an inherent ability to heal and lead a life that's full of contentment and well-being, and our breath is the key to unlocking this path. My mission is to guide people on how to use their breath to heal, let go of stress, and find true peace and joy within. I dream of a world where everyone taps into the power of breathwork to live a balanced, happy life.

As someone deeply committed to the well-being and safety of all who step into the journey of breathwork with me, I feel it's essential to express a critical point: breathwork, though transformative and healing for many, isn't universally fit for everyone. There's an undeniable power in recognizing and respecting this truth. In every session I lead, my priority is your safety and aligning with practices that serve you best.

In our space, I hold a firm stance regarding certain health conditions called contraindications. These are situations where breathwork may not be beneficial and could potentially be harmful, highlighting the need for awareness and caution. It's a non-negotiable aspect of my practice to ensure everyone's safety, including your own and adhering to the guidelines set forth.
 

Understanding Contraindications:

Simply put, contraindications are specific reasons that make certain treatments or practices unsuitable for someone due to the risks involved. It’s about protecting you and ensuring the path to healing and growth is both safe and appropriate.
 

Why It's Critical to Address Contraindications:
The heart of asking about contraindications lies in safeguarding your well-being. Your safety is my utmost concern, and this step is non-debatable.

Non-Negotiable Health Conditions:
For these scenarios, I must emphasize a strict avoidance of breathwork:

  • Retinal detachment

  • History of seizures

  • Severe, untreated mental illnesses

  • Glaucoma

  • Psychosis
     

Conditions Requiring Prior Medical Clearance:

If any of the following conditions apply to you, obtaining medical clearance before participating in breathwork is essential:

  • Any history of panic attacks

  • Cardiovascular conditions, including angina and heart disease

  • High blood pressure

  • Recent surgery or physical injury

  • Osteoporosis

  • Any neurological disorders

  • Pregnancy

  • The prevalence of frequent dizziness or similar symptoms

  • Any other conditions that raise concern


My Role and Responsibility as Your Facilitator:

Should you identify with any of the above contraindications, the path forward involves consulting with your healthcare provider. I encourage you to discuss openly with them about your interest in breathwork and the specifics of your health condition. If given clearance, a written confirmation from your physician will be necessary for us to proceed safely. My commitment to your safety and well-being is unwavering, and these measures are in place to ensure we can continue our journey together in the healthiest manner possible.
